OJB Membership Application
Dear Future Member,

Thank you for expressing interest in joining the Oscar Joel Bryan Foundation. The Foundation was formed in 1968 by a group of African American officers after the death of LAPD Officer Oscar Joel Bryant. The officers established the Foundation so that they might ensure that the organization’s members were treated fairly and protected against any form of discrimination in the workplace.

As time has passed, the goals of the organization have grown. Today, we strive to ensure equal and fair treatment to all members regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation. We recognize that we must collectively work together to bring to light both overt and covert double standards in the areas of discipline, recruitment, paygrade advancements, and selections for coveted positions and specialized units.

We also assist our membership, which is comprised of sworn, civilian, and retired personnel, by providing training seminars, mentorship opportunities, financial planning assistance, tuition reimbursement, and scholarships for the children of our members. OJB is a charter member of the National Black Police Association, which awarded OJB the 2011 Willie Smoot Organizational Meritorious Award for chapter of the year.

We truly hope that your membership will provide you with invaluable experiences and that any needs you may have can be accommodated by the Oscar Joel Bryant Foundation.

Sincerely,
Shannon White
President
